The Power of Pausing and Playing
Provision and productivity are essential. Yet, if they aren’t balanced with healthy doses of pausing and playing, they become detrimental.
I named the current yoga practice I’m teaching: Sacred Sweat. My intention in this occasionally vigorous practice is to let one’s sweat remind them:
You are sacred. We all are sacred. This moment is holy. This breath is a gift. Life is a miracle to be marveled at.
The more we remember this—I’ve found—the more loving, kind, caring, compassionate, and inclusive we become to ourselves and others. And, if we’re super real and honest, isn’t that what matters most in life? After all, we are all earthlings. We are all part of one human family meant to do life together.
When we “step back” to look around and take a big picture perspective, I find we see and know this to be true. Those who do life together—regardless of race, creed, status, sexuality, etc.—thrive and shine. Conversely, people who point fingers, argue, divide, quibble, judge, and so on, suffer. It really is that simple. I see it in the news, on social media, in person, and beyond. How about you?
I bring this up because I find regularly—and purposefully—taking time to pause and play, really helps clear, calm, and center me. The clearing away of life’s stresses and struggles, combined with the calming of my mind and body, helps me center on what matters most in life: Loving ourselves, others, life, and the Miracle and Mystery behind it all, well.
This is why I find it SO life-giving to, as best as one can, mindfully set aside moments every day to rest (via pausing)—and reset (via playing)—from life’s hustle and bustle. Please know this doesn’t need to be anything dramatic! A minute, or five, go a LONG way!
And, from there, just think of the possibilities. Wouldn’t it be fabulous to make one day a week, a sacred day for only pausing and playing? And, from there, as one looks at months, seasons, years, and beyond—the possibilities are endless. Can you feel it? I invite you to imagine what this could look like in your life. Wherever you are at in the practices of pausing and playing, what is a small shift you could make toward greater health and wellness? I find it helpful to view it as a sacred time to reset and restore.
I believe in you, and hope what I shared blessed and benefited you. What is more, I would truly love to hear from you in the comments! Whether it’s your celebrations, intentions, critiques, or thoughts.
And, please remember, no matter what: You are amazing!
Hugs & Love,
Lang (aka “Dr. Love”)
