Compassion is Our Super Power
Life is a team sport. Together, we rise higher. United we shine brighter.
Hello Beautiful Beings!
There’s this good, kind, and loving thing I’ve been meaning to do for weeks, but haven’t. Doh! :( While part of me says: It’s too late, forget it. The truer part of me knows: Kindness is always relevant and helpful. So, with that in mind, let me introduce you to my dear friend, Rachel.
(Rachel when we visited her last year)
In what seemed like a blink of an eye, Rachel went from living a whole and full life, to being debilitated by stage four breast cancer! Aside from being life-threatening, this all-too-real monster effectively “ate” her lower spine. When Lisa and I went to visit her in June, it took Rachel ten minutes to get to the door and let us in! As she welcomed us in with a smile, and inner brightness that shines into everyone around, I couldn’t help but notice how frail and fragile she looked.
Since then, Rachel had spinal fusion surgery, a variety of other healing aids, and seems to be on the upswing. But, the disabling nature of the battle in her body, doesn’t leave her much time or energy to earn money to pay for her rehab, treatments, food, lodging, and such. Not to mention the ongoing question of her overall health and wellbeing.
With that in mind, I want to pause for a second to celebrate Rachel. She has a heavenly voice. It takes you away to a better place. And really, that’s what Rachel does. As a healer, musician, yoga teacher, friend, and person: Rachel moves you to a higher, more beautiful state of being.
Speaking of which, I believe we all have a shared super power: Compassion. Life is too hard of a road to walk alone. Compassion honors this by seeing those who’ve “tripped, stumbled, or fallen,” and not only feeling that pain with them, but also purposefully doing something to help them! Gloriously, practicing compassion yields a double blessing—it makes both the recipient and giver happier.
With that in mind, and recognizing love transcends all distance, I invite you to get your superhero costume on, and let your compassion light shine on Rachel. Whether you think about her, pray for her, send her good energy, contribute to her Go Fund Me (below), or ____, it’ll make a beautiful difference.
Hugs & Love,
Lang (aka “Dr. Love”)
