Hello and welcome, treasured one—
My wife and I just celebrated our seventh anniversary! We marked the occasion by driving up to the Scottish Highlands for the weekend; where we stayed at a lovely bed and breakfast. While I could go on-and-on about the gorgeous green scenery, insights we gained into the history and making of whisky during distillery tours, the tastiness of Scottish whisky, the delicious food, and the wonderful people—I’d rather focus for a beat on the best part of the trip: Lisa. The absolute highlight was, being and connecting with my partner.
Which got me thinking: What is it about Lisa that makes simply spending quality time together—no matter what we’re doing, or where we’re at—so incredible?
The more I mulled this over, the more I kept coming back to the same thing:
She sees, reflects, treasures, celebrates, and adores me exactly as I am. Lisa loves every bit of me. And honestly, I don’t believe there is a greater gift in the world than this.
(Isn’t Lisa beautiful?!)
To be fully known, and fully treasured, is pretty much the best thing ever.
After all, us humans are innately social creatures. We so deeply desire to belong—with at least some group of people—we dread unbelonging like death. Of course, this makes complete sense because historically, it wasn’t that long ago that if a person was kicked out of their tribe, they would literally die.
So, in order to belong, we play roles, we wear “masks”, we leave parts of ourselves behind when we’re with certain people, we bend ourselves to fit in, and so on. We do this so frequently and instinctively; we often don’t even realize we’re doing it. This is why being fully seen and embraced is such an incredible gift.
I think here of the story of Adam and Eve. Specifically, how before things went sideways: They “were naked, and were not ashamed.” (Genesis 2:25, NRSVA) In other words: They were fully and freely their complete, authentic selves—and both felt nothing other than great about it. Friends, I believe that is how we are made and meant to be!
With that in mind, I want to leave you with a blessing and a request:
May you be fully known, and fully treasured. May you fully know, and fully treasure others. And may the deep wellness and wholeness this brings, wash over, into, and through you.
I’m experimenting with shorter, more frequent posts. Please let me know what you think about that idea, as well as this particular post, in the comments and via the “like” button 🤍. Also, feel free to share it with anyone it could benefit. You are amazing, and I hope you have a beautiful day!
Hugs & Love,
